Modules Available
  Developing yourself
Developing yourself as a manager is the key to success. In this module, you will be introduced to some approaches, techniques and activities that can assist you in self-analysis and planning.
  Knowing yourself
This module will help you to understand why you need to take responsibility for your own personal and career development. It will also help you to find a fit between your personal and your organisational preferences and priorities.
  Knowing your Strengths and Weaknesses
In working through this module, you will identify the activities you carry out in your role of manager. This will provide a basis for considering your strengths and weaknesses.
  Presenting yourself to Others
This module explores ways in which you present yourself positively to others. This links to how you influence others which is crucial to your success as a manager.
  Working with Others
In this module we learn that in order to work effectively with others we need to welcome everyone's contribution as being of equal value and remove any barriers that might stop this happening.
  Developing as a Manager
You will learn about the characteristics of adult learners and the different preferred ways of learning - learning styles. You will consider whether you need further training and development to help you in your role and you will look at some ideas for improving your relationship with your staff.
  Managing Priorities
A failure to manage time effectively has a cumulative effect: it increases pressure on you, which is likely to reduce your efficiency, and it makes you feel that you are not doing your job properly. Therefore, unless you tackle the problem, it is likely to get worse. This element will provide some strategies for managing priorities and for using your working time more effectively.
  Understanding Management Roles
You will realise why being a manager may seem frustrating at times! You will recognise the importance of interpersonal, informational and decisional skills and the links between them. You will learn that as a manager you move in and out of up to ten very different roles. And you will think about your skills in each of these roles.
  Knowing your Team
Some teams work well and achieve their goals. The members of the team enthusiastically contribute their particular skills, and everyone involved feels they have got something out of being part of the team. When teams work well it looks so easy that you might think it's all down to luck. It isn't! A lot of work needs to go on behind the scenes for a team to be successful - and this starts with knowing your team.
  Communication Effectively
In an ideal world we would all communicate openly, clearly and effectively with each other. In real life things are inevitably very different. Communication often carries hidden meaning and is frequently confused or ineffective. Your ability to communicate well in a supervisory role will have a direct impact on people's understanding of their job and their performance. It is therefore essential that you can communicate effectively.
