- Signposting language
Outline - You will explore a range of useful expressions that are used by speakers to signpost their presentations for their audience. You will then practise listening to an extract from a presentation on a business-related topic to identify the signposting language that the speaker uses.
- Building your business vocabulary
Outline -In these activities you will practise using a concordancer to develop your business-related vocabulary. You will also explore the use of some typical business terminology.
- Introduction to sentence function
Outline - You will identify the functions of a range of sentences taken from business contexts and consider how the language they use can help you with your own sentence construction.
- Using clues to follow a business presentation
Outline - In these two activities you will test your listening comprehension using two extracts from different business presentations and also practise listening for clues to help your understanding.
- Developing your writing style
Outline - You will learn to recognise the features of informal and formal writing styles and consider how to develop a more formal writing style. You will also practise rewriting a business text to make it more formal.
- Expressing causality in business contexts
Outline - In these activities you will explore the language for expressing cause and effect relationships and practise using it to re-write some sentences taken from a business-related context.
- Prediction and listening practice
Outline - You will listen to an extract from an interview with a project manager and use it to practise your prediction skills and test your understanding.
- Proofreading a business text
Outline -You will learn how to proofread a text that you have written and what kind of mistakes to look out for when doing this. You will also practise proofreading a business text.
- A lecture on economic development
Outline - You will practise your listening skills using an extract from a lecture on economic development.
- Collocations and chunking
In these activities, you will look at how being able to recognise words that commonly go together and how reading in 'chunks' can help you grasp meaning more effectively as you read.
